21st Century Literature from the Philippines and the World explores literary texts produced from the year 2000 onward, focusing on both Philippine and global contexts. It aims to develop students’ appreciation for contemporary literature while enhancing their critical thinking, creativity, and communication skills.
The course introduces students to a wide range of modern literary genres and forms such as flash fiction, graphic novels, spoken word poetry, digital literature, and other emerging media. It emphasizes the dynamic and evolving nature of literature in response to technological advancement, globalization, and shifting cultural landscapes. Through reading, analyzing, and creating literary works, students gain insight into contemporary themes such as identity, migration, gender, social justice, and the environment.
Philippine literature is highlighted to help students understand the country's rich cultural heritage and the diverse voices of Filipino writers from various regions.
